First of all, this book is an economic, financial and investment opportunity analysis of the robotics field.
Do not expect any deep technical insight on robotics itself of the kind of 'build your own robot'. However the first part is a nice introduction for dummies to the basics (history, Asimov, Moravec, IoT, humanoids, collaborative robotics, military use, drones, challenges, etc). You will gain a wider and deeper undestanding of robotics - if you start from zero as I did - after reading this.
The text analyses the comprehensive number of projects, enterprises, universities, governments that are actually seriously involved in concrete robotics developments and promotion (yes: governments actively promote robotics).
Then the book delves deeply into the economic aspect covering most - if not all - the outstanding initiatives in the field with a particular attention to concrete market use cases, ROI and beyond. Job challenges and opportunities are also covered (second appendix provide details for potential practitioners).
Here is where the book stops treating the robotics as a specific field in order to outline it as a pure financial dimension reasoning over market share, disruptions, gains and projections.
